The Hoia Baciu Forest is definitely one of Romania’s greatest unsolved mysteries, to say the least.
It is known as one of the most haunted forests in the world, and because of how thick the trees are and how close they are to one another the darkness here is so deep that you can’t even see your own hand in front of your eyes at its darkest.
The trees are said to be downright skeletal looking and as the wind tries its hardest to blow through them it creates an eerie sound that the locals believe to be a warning from God himself to stay out.
This is why it’s known as the Bermuda Triangle of Romania for a lot of people. Locals even believe that this is where souls get trapped in if they’re not careful.
Ghosts, ghouls, and undead all roam these lands in search of a body to take over.
One of the local tales tells about a little girl that disappeared in the forest. Five years later she emerges out of the forest unscathed and yet broken. She is unable to remember anything of the past 5 years and she believes no time has passed since her disappearance.
Another tells the story of a shepherd that vanished too, which is why people believe that this might either be haunted or a hotspot for alien abductions.
There are hiking tours that you can take through it but we don’t suggest you stray far away from the road; otherwise, you too might find yourself confused and dazed several years into the future.
